Setting Up a Medical Practice:
Balancing Atmosphere, Functionality, and Technology
Healthy Spaces
For many people, doctors’ offices aren’t exactly their favorite places.
But why not try thinking and designing differently for a change? Let’s create spaces with atmosphere and warmth, where—for a change—the necessary technology takes a back seat to the ambiance.
“Healthy spaces” are created to provide therapeutic support through a soothing atmosphere made of natural materials and elements from nature, such as sounds, scents, or light.
Yet it is often the indispensable screen technology that disrupts the carefully crafted overall design.
Our LOFT monitor series offers a fresh approach to this very challenge. With clean surfaces made of glass and aluminum, customizable in both color and function, these screens enable a harmonious and welcoming room atmosphere.
Architects and designers now have the opportunity to integrate high-quality monitor technology either discreetly or as a focal point—a symbiosis of architecture and technology.
The LOFT monitor series is available starting at 1,500 EUR.

Practice Design - A Novis Vision
Why are doctors’ offices so often white? White floors, white walls, bright lights. Sure, white symbolizes cleanliness, control, and medical precision. But does sterility necessarily have to go hand in hand with a cold, distant atmosphere?
Modern medical practices are increasingly moving away from this image and evolving into holistically designed environments that consciously prioritize people.
Lounge-style waiting areas are being created. Soft materials, warm lighting, and an open, inviting design create an atmosphere that no longer feels like a medical facility.
This visionary waiting area at a doctor’s office, with its warm wooden elements and organic shapes, immediately conveys a sense of warmth, calm, and trust—qualities that can have a soothing effect on patients, especially in a medical setting.
Particularly striking are the organically curved wall structures with vertical wooden slats, which create small, more private retreats. The thematic differentiation of the individual areas gives rise to distinct spatial atmospheres, allowing users to choose the space that best suits their mood.
The space is complemented by our LOFT desktop monitor, which, with its faux leather back panel, blends seamlessly with the leather chairs. Thanks to their clean lines and timeless design, the screens recede visually, enhancing the room’s serene atmosphere.
Overall, this reflects a spatial concept strongly rooted in the principles of healing architecture: stress reduction, a pleasant environment, and a sense of security are the primary focus.
Arrive, get your bearings, understand
Information is often underestimated when setting up medical practices. Even the most beautiful room is of little use if you don’t know where to go. Instead of cluttered bulletin boards, modern practices therefore rely on clearly structured, digital solutions. Well-placed monitors display all the important information at a glance: directions, procedures, or wait times. The goal is to convey this information as quickly as possible without seeming intrusive.
Our LOFT desktop monitor is discreetly placed in the reception or waiting area and blends seamlessly into any interior design. With the TWIN option, information can even be displayed on the back, so that patients can see everything they need to know as soon as they walk in. What matters most is not so much the technology as the impact it has: providing clear guidance reduces uncertainty and gives patients a sense of control.
Monitors are part of interior design
In many offices and reception areas, monitors with visible logos and a technical appearance dominate the overall look. They often seem out of place in an otherwise well-thought-out design. Yet this is precisely where there is great potential: monitors can be more than just functional elements; they can blend naturally into the space and become part of the design language.
A key approach here is deliberate product neutrality. By omitting visible brand logos—or offering the option for customization—the monitor can take a back seat and be visually adapted to its surroundings. This creates a calm, consistent overall look that isn’t disrupted by visual inconsistencies.
This integration is enhanced by a minimalist design language: sleek silhouettes, clean lines, and understated materials ensure that the monitor blends harmoniously into its surroundings. Much like furniture or lighting, its impact stems not from dominance, but from precision and restraint. Depending on the application, it can either serve as a deliberate focal point or blend almost invisibly into the room’s layout.
At the same time, full functionality is preserved. Ergonomic adjustability, unrestricted mobility, and intuitive operation enable flexible workflows and support everyday use. The combination of timeless design—focused on the essentials—and sustainable materials makes the monitor a durable element within the room’s design concept.
Integration into reception and waiting areas
The reception area is essentially the nerve center of a medical practice. This is where information converges and where patients begin to find their way around. That is precisely why our monitors at the reception desk are particularly well-suited to showcase their strengths.
Positioned as tabletop units, they blend seamlessly into the reception work area while always remaining at eye level with patients. Thanks to their flexible placement—freely swiveling and movable—they can be positioned exactly where they’re needed.
This not only offers ergonomic benefits for staff but also ensures that information is visible at exactly the right moment.
Thanks to high resolution and modern IPS technology, content remains clearly legible from various viewing angles.
Hygiene requirements
Note: This is a general overview. Specific plans for your practice should always be discussed with a certified hygiene specialist and the relevant regulatory authority.
Entrance and reception area: This is where patients first encounter the medical practice. Materials used here must be both durable and inviting. Floors must be highly abrasion-resistant and easy to clean, as they see heavy foot traffic. Contact surfaces such as counters should also be resistant to disinfectants and have minimal grouting.
Waiting Area: In addition to ease of cleaning, the focus here is particularly on well-being. Surfaces should be hygienically safe while also creating a welcoming atmosphere. Seating furniture requires durable, easy-to-clean upholstery, ideally with antimicrobial properties. Materials with a pleasant texture and soothing color schemes can help reduce stress and anxiety. Here, too, low-emission materials are important to avoid compromising indoor air quality.
Treatment rooms: These are subject to the strictest requirements. Surfaces here must be particularly hygienic, smooth, non-porous, and resistant to intensive cleaning and disinfection. Joints should be kept to a minimum, as they can harbor germs. Work surfaces, wall coverings, and floor coverings must be chemically resistant and easy to disinfect. Materials such as coated panels, special plastics, or stainless steel are frequently used here.
Low-maintenance and durable monitors
In the demanding day-to-day environment of medical facilities, monitors must be, above all, reliable, durable, and easy to clean. The LOFT desktop was designed specifically to meet these requirements and stands out for its durable and low-maintenance design.
With its IP65 rating, the monitor is fully protected against dust and water splashes. This makes it easy to clean and helps ensure compliance with high hygiene standards—a crucial factor in sensitive environments such as doctors’ offices and treatment rooms.
When it comes to durability, the LOFT Desktop also prioritizes long-lasting quality. With a lifetime warranty on the mechanism and panel lifespans of up to 18 years, it offers a durable, low-maintenance solution and is therefore a reliable component of modern work environments.
